Pine Cones out the wazoo!

Well the days are counting down to the release of the Xbox 360. This Tuesday is when its suppose to be out.

I have collect tons of pine cones for Holiday crafts my mother and I are making. And I thought I would share some of the recipes for making scented pine cones that we have came across.

Scented Pine Cones

Recipe 1: Mix 1 part glue to 1 part water and brush entire cone with a foam brush. To scent the cone, roll it in a mixture of ground cinnamon and cloves.

Recipe 2: Purchase cinnamon oil at a craft store or candle shop. Pour the essential oil into a spray bottle with a little water, and spray the pine cones until they are damp. Place the cones in a plastic bag and seal for 24 hours.

Recipe 3: Place the pine cones in a seal able plastic bag, add several drops of cinnamon oil, close the bag and shake several times to distribute the scent. Let sit overnight.

Scented Pine Cone Fire Starters

Place a coffee can in a pan of water on the stove. Add broken pieces of candle wax, paraffin or candle stubs to the can and allow to melt on medium to low heat until the liquid wax is high enough to coat the entire pine cone. When the wax is melted, stir in some cinnamon oil and candle coloring if desired.

Using tongs, dip the pine cone slowly into the liquid wax until it is completely coated. Remove and allow to drip over the can until it stops. Place on wax paper and allow to completely harden.

Pine cones can be arranged in a basket or other container. If used as a gift, place in a fancy box with fireplace matches. To use as a fire starter, place the pine cone on top of the kindling and light the edge of one of the petals.

I’m definately trying Recipe #1 you gave. I think I’ll do a ton of pine cones and do that and then put them in a bowl in my room…like a room freshener. Wow…my room might actually smell fresh and pretty..not like something died in it like it usually does, hahaha.

I would love to see what your house looks and smells like during the Holiday season….it must be awesome!
