Planned Parenthood & Statutory Rape

Student reporter Lila Rose posed as a 15 year old, entered a Santa Monica Planned Parenthood and announced that a 23 year old man had impregnated her, according to the Advocate, a student magazine at UCLA. Planned Parenthood staff informed Rose that this constituted statutory rape and then encouraged her to “figure out a birth-date that works,” to obtain the abortion and avoid getting the man in trouble with the police. The Planned Parenthood staff assured Rose that if she said she was 16 or older, they wouldn’t have to report the rape.

“California’s mandatory reporting laws for statutory rape are supposed to protect pregnant minors,” said Lila Rose, Editor in Chief of The Advocate. “Underage girls are being targeted by predators, and Planned Parenthood is busy covering up the evidence. How many other rapes has this one clinic covered up?”

The second issue of the UCLA student publication, The Advocate, was released yesterday and includes the full report of this story, along with youtube.com links to video taken of the event.

My views on abortion are somewhat liberal (Oh dear God did I just say that!). I am pro-choice just as long as it isn’t used as a form of birth control but I am against partial birth abortions. But what type of person tells an underage pregnant girl not to report the statutory rape and tell her to lie about her date of birth! The laws are put into place to protect minors and Planned Parenthood is suppose to be ran by adults looking out for the best interest of the child. Letting a 23 year old man who knocked up a 15 year old off the hook is not in the best interest of the minor! Of course the 15 year old girl was really an undercover reporter but just think how many actual minors where treated that way.

I am against abortion too unless the child and/or the mother’s life is in danger.

Wow…just wow. It’s almost like it’s too much of a hassle for them to have to report the crime. It’s disgusting what this world’s coming to.

I’m positively, absolutely pro-choice, and I still think it’s really irresponsible of this particular Planned Parenthood, if this is how it happened (meaning, were they really inside the PP facility or was it staged for the video, etc etc – I can’t find any sources apart from Christian sites, an anti-ACLU site, and The Advocate – hopefully it will be picked up by a major news organization and investigated).

I can honestly say my local PP wouldn’t do such a thing. They’re very professional in both my experience and the experiences of many, many women I know (I use them for my regular gynecological checkups and birth control).

I’ve never heard or nor had such an unprofessional experience at any Planned Parentehood, so I don’t know how common this sort of thing is. But I felt that they were responding to her cue that she didn’t want this man to get into trouble. It’s still wrong and obviously the system isn’t without flaws but I’m not sure what the point of the whole investigation was – whether it was to protect teens who might go there or to discredit PP and other abortion providers.

I wouldn’t be aghast if I hear something like that happening in our country. Besides, I’m not sure if there are organizations here like your Planned Parenthood ever helping minor who have been violated.
